The Planning program educates students in the scientific, aesthetic, and orderly disposition of land, resources, facilities and services with a view to securing the physical, economic and social efficiency, health and well-being of communities. Planners work for all levels of government and in professional planning consultancies.

Students interested in focusing on natural science elements of planning, including environmental management and the use of geographic information sciences, should consider the BSc Program and those interested in the aesthetic, economic, and social issues of planning should consider the BA program. There are links to each of these on the left hand side of the webpage.

Dr. Sandeep Agrawal to be Inaugural Director of U of A Planning Program

The Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences is pleased to announce the hiring of Dr. Sandeep Agrawal as it's inaugural Director of the Undergraduate Program in Planning.

We are excited to to be adding someone with Dr. Agrawal’s experience in Planning Education and an outstanding academic record” indicated Dr. Martin Sharp, Chair of EAS. "The recently established Planning program was developed in response to a strong demand from the planning industry and municipalities and we are delighted to have Dr. Agrawal to lead the program towards meeting that need".

University of Alberta Planning Program Joins ACUPP

The University of Alberta Planning Program which is set to begin in September 2012 was accepted into the Association of Canadian University Planning Programs (ACUPP) this past week. ACUPP is an inter university organization promote excellence in planning education, research and practice.

Robert Summers, the Acting Director of the U of A program noted that "being a member of ACUPP will provide our program with greater opportunities to collaborate with Planning programs across Canada on curriculum development, program delivery, scholarly research, student fieldtrips, and teaching opportunities. It is an important step forward for the program".
